Bokudou Con, NIS, and the utter lack of posts

I have not watched any anime outside of Anime Society in... weeks, it feels like. The reason? Ar Tonelico : Melody of Elimia. Thank you NIS. Fantastic RPG meets Dating Sim. Admittedly, it is my first NIS title so I don't know how it stands against their others, but it's quite good.

Okay, so right now my life is being sucked away by playing a video game and planning an Anime Convention for the Anime Society. Yeah! Exciting. My idea is to call it Bokudou Con (because Cowboy Con is boring!) and make it small this year. That way I can manage everything without freaking out! ^_^

And our other author for this blog has recently gotten a job as an opinion columnist and believes himself too busy to write opinions over here as well. *pokes him*

Soon, my pets, soon! My plans are to finish up the semester with Shana (which got sat aside by Ar Tonelico *gasp*) and then start in on Fate/Stay Night and Host Club. Here's to following through!

Sweet, sweet irony

So I'm trying to get ready for this cultural dinner I'm helping host on Thursday, and I'm looking into what kind of ramen ingredients I should use. Looking at the long list of things they put in ramen I find this:

Naruto - A white fish cake, usually featuring a red spiral pattern on the inside. It is served in thin slices. Most ramen bowls have at least one slice of naruto.

This... made me giggle.

Last of Last Exile

Well, Nanikometa and I just finished up Last Exile tonight. I'm truely in love with the series, though the last episode features a very confusing montage. It's just too frustrating when an anime ends in such a way that you wonder, "Would I know what this ending meant if I read the manga?" This is just a tad frustrating, but not as frustrating I suppose as knowing how the manga is supposed to end and watching an anime butcher the ending. So I suppose I'll just have to live with the fact that even though they killed off ********** and ********** they at least left me with ********** who ********** that one ********** and then had like ********** **********.

Yeah. I don't give away endings.

Dekimashita! ~ a cooking entry

The melon bread turned out to be more like melon roll size. I even took a fork and made little criss cross lines like the ones that Shana's have!

The ones that were cooked all the way tasted great! But... the cookie part was terrific and the bread part was chewie. Most of the melon rolls turned out undercooked as I have a ridiculous fear of overcooking things.

Thus, must rolls were fed to the trashcan, but the few that did make it into my belly were tasty! If anyone finds a better melon bread recipe let me know. ^_^

Sometimes I have too stop and look at myself in the mirror and say, "You must not try new recipes at 12:30 at night!"

But hey, guess who is having chicken fried rice bento tomorrow for lunch? Me and Mr. Nanikometa! There's a first time for everything.

Speaking of Nanikometa, look for a post from him this weekend on Grenadier, the anime we just started this week in Anime Society!

Shakugan no Shana

There are some animes that feature a food in so many episodes that eventually you want to consume that food. This is like product placement, only they're not drinking a Pepsi or eating a Snickers; they're simply eating a type of food. From piles of fried rice Goku consumes in Dragonball, to bento boxes of Karin, I'm an strangely affected by this to the point of making lots of rice and buying cute bento boxes on eBay. But sometimes the item is not so readily available.

In steps Shana. Shana of Shakugan no Shana has the precious ability to be super cute and bad ass all at the same time. She loves performing acts of justice with her super cool sword, and she loves her melon bread!

Melon... bread?

What is it? Good question. It's crunchy, but soft, and tastes... melony? It's not available in the US, or at least not in Podunk, Oklahoma. Thus, I've never had it. But Shana makes it look so tasty!

As bringing in melon bread from Japan would be expensive, and possibly gross if they don't have a ton of preservatives, I've decided to attempt to make my own. I... don't have much faith in my abilities, but I will definitely keep you updated on my endeavors!

My take on downloading anime:

The most exciting thing for me about watching anime is watching it translated by fans for fans before it is officially released by companies in the United States. Yes, I am one of those who watches "subs". To me, it is not entirely illegal to subtitle anime and make it available to download. Downloading it become illegal once the companies purchase rights to it, or even send out letters saying, "Please discontinue making this available for download, we're thinking about purchasing it".

To help this semi-legal activity to go on I feel it is the anime viewer's obligation to purchase the anime once it is released in the United States. For example, my love Black Cat.

I was introduced to this anime my first semester of collage during an Anime Society meeting. Black Cat is the story of 'sweepers' who bring in bad guys for the bounty; it follows the lives of four sweepers as they get mixed up in a battle between two violent organizations, with the fate of all mankind on the line. It is full of action and has a touching story at the same time, and until December of 06 it was unavailable on DVD. I downloaded and watched the entire series long before that, and loved it.

I will admit, when Funimation announced that they had a hold of it I was a little concerned. However, they pulled through, and brought in a pretty decent, if not relatively unknown, cast for the voices. March 20th heralds the release of disc 3!

The moral of my ridiculously long and unorganized story? Buying anime after it's released makes you feel better about downloading it before it was released.

Okay. Back to boring homework.
